New ABN Reporting Essentials

The Australian Taxation Office recently announced a change in reporting requirements for not-for-profits. If your club has an active Australian Business Number (ABN), FROM JULY 1, you need to lodge a NFP self-review return, in order to access income tax exemptions from the 2023–24 income year onward.

  1. Update your address and details with the Australian Taxation Office ASAP. You must ensure that the person who updates their details with the ATO is the same person whose name is associated with the club through your incorporation and ABN. This is the person who will receive the email on July 1, so Step 1 must be completed by then.

  1. Setup myGovID and RAM (Relationship Authorisation Manager) account.

This is where clubs can lodge the NFP self-review return from July 1.

  1. Complete these step-by-step instructions on working through the ATO income tax exemption self-assessment return for the 2023/24 income tax year. All clubs & areas have the period from 1 July 2024 to 31 October 2024 to complete any preparation steps & then complete & submit their return.
